The Knowledge Exchange Platform, which is a joint initiative of Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Institute for Industrial Productivity, is organizing the 2nd ‘National Workshop cum Technology Exhibition for Promoting Energy Efficient and Cleaner Production for Sustainable Industrial Growth’ from 8th to 9th March, 2018 at Silver Oak Hall and Lawn, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003. Enthused by the outcome of the First workshop in the series, this event is being organized by the Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP) with a focus on creating awareness, building capacity and to facilitate access to reliable and efficient technologies, service providers and financing opportunities for enhancing energy efficiency in the industry and the building sectors.
The theme and objective of this workshop cum technology exhibition is important for the industries covered under the 2nd and 3rd PAT cycle as well as those proposed to be covered in future PAT cycles. Click here to know more
A three day SGA for Arvind Limited, Santej was organized during 10th to 12th August, 2017. The SGA for Arvind Limited, Santej was designed to ensure that employees from all levels of production participated and went through a series of guided/ facilitated process that included self-assessment, listing of options, and assessment of options on their relative economics and impact and prioritization of actions most suited to meet the energy efficiency requirement of their specific area of plant operation. These sessions were carefully facilitates so that the employees work as a team in coordinated fashion and there is a healthy competition within and across groups in different operational areas. IIn total, 227 kW energy saving target was planned by these 4 Groups.Click here to know more
KEP is providing value added services for training and capacity building of the industries under the SPARC model (Service Package for Advancing Resource Conservation). The whole idea behind organizing such training programs is that, with the enhanced target under the PAT scheme in each cycle the industry will need much more customized and hand holding support to identify their plant specific opportunities for energy efficiency. The two days training and capacity building workshop was organized at Arvind Limited, on 8h – 9th August, 2017 which was attended by 24 officials working in various process departments. The welcome address was presented by Shri Harvinder Rathee, Engineering Head, Arvind Limited. In his address, he highlighted the contribution made by KEP in promoting energy efficiency in Indian Industry and hoped that under KEP-SPARC membership, Arvind Limited will also be greatly benefitted through the proceedings of Capacity building program and 3 days Small group activity. Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP) organized a “5 Day Preparatory Training Course for the 18th National Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors” from 17th July to 21st July, 2017 at Marigold, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. This preparatory training program focussed on strengthening the capacity of prospective energy professionals to write the Energy Auditor and Energy Manager Certification Examination and supporting industry in all their effort towards enhancing energy productivity. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP), with the cooperation of IOCL Vadodara Refinery, organized the Western Region Workshop on “Capacity Building of Officers from Petroleum Refinery Sector on Efficient Use of Energy” on 7th July 2017 (Friday) at Auditorium IOCL, Vadodara Refinery, Vadodara, Gujarat.This workshop served as a platform for sharing experiences, where new DCs from PAT Refinery Sector will share best practices implemented to enhance the energy efficiency index in electrical and thermal utility systems, in-house operations leading to multiple benefits, and new and innovative technologies for the sector. The SGA for My Home Industries Limited, Telangana was designed to ensure that employees from all levels of production participated and went through a series of guided/ facilitated process that included self-assessment, listing of options, and assessment of options on their relative economics and impact and prioritization of actions most suited to meet the energy efficiency requirement of their specific area of plant operation.These sessions were carefully facilitates so that the employees work as a team in coordinated fashion and there is a healthy competition within and across groups in different operational areas. The whole idea behind organizing such training programs is that, with the enhanced target under the PAT scheme in each cycle the industry will need much more customized and hand holding support to identify their plant specific opportunities for energy efficiency. The two days training and capacity building workshop was organized at My Home Industries Limited, Mellacheruvu Plant on 13th – 14th June, 2017 which was attended by 26 officials working in mechanical, electrical, instrument, mining, QA and process departments. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri MM Patil, President (Works), My Home Industries Limited. Shri Patil mentioned improvement in energy intensity will bring down the specific input energy cost and ultimately trigger higher profit in company’s balance sheet. Shri Patil mentioned that although management has employed energy efficient technologies and Waste Heat Recovery Project, but the efforts should continue in achieving the benefits from small to medium term measures through involvement of employees.. In his inaugural address, Shri Wadhawan advised the plant engineers that they should not be complacent of the fact that the plant has already implemented energy saving measures and achieved the desired energy efficiency level. This is one of the threats under SWOT analysis and should try their best not to get affected by this factor. He felt that the organization of Capacity Building Program followed by 3 days Small Group Activity Program by KEP will assist the industry in achieving the targets under PAT-2 cycle. The Knowledge Exchange Platform (KEP), a joint initiative of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Institute for Industrial Productivity (IIP), supported by British High Commission, with the cooperation of Hindalco Industries Ltd., is organizing Two days’ Workshop on “Best Practices in Energy Efficiency in Aluminium Sector” on 16th-17th December, 2016 at Hindalco Industries Ltd., Hirakud. The workshop on 16th December will be an opportunity for sharing experiences, where existing DCs along with new DCs from PAT Aluminium Sector will share best practice case studies in the area of energy efficiency, roadmap followed to effectively implement Energy Management System (EnMS), in-house operations leading to multiple benefits, and new and innovative technologies for the sector. Field visits on 17th December to Hindalco Smelter Plant and Captive Power Plant, will provide an opportunity to interact with plant people on best operation and maintenance practices, energy efficient technologies deployed and management system followed. Delegates will also get a chance to visit nearby historic site – Hirakud Dam (longest major earthen dam in India, measuring 25.8 km including dykes, and stands across the river Mahanadi). The Knowledge Exchange Platform under the guidance of Bureau of Energy Efficiency and with the cooperation of Reliance Infrastructures Limited, Dahanu Thermal Power Station, organized the First Workshop on “Best Practices in Energy Efficiency in “Thermal Power Plant Sector” on 28th October, 2015 (Wednesday) at Dahanu Thermal Power Station, RIL, Dahanu, Maharashtra. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Rajendra Nandi, Project Director, Sr. Vice President, Dahanu Thermal Power Station, Reliance Infrastructure Limited. The best practice workshop in thermal power sector was an important event under KEP as it was not just relevant for 144 Designated Consumers (DCs) that have been mandated to enhance their energy efficiency under the 1st cycle of PAT scheme but for other industry sectors like cement, aluminium as well, which have sizable number of Captive Power Plants (CPP). The workshop was attended by 230 participants, which included 100 representatives of thermal power sector and 130 representatives of aluminium, cement, pulp & paper, fertilizer, textile, iron & steel sectors, energy auditors and energy managers, technology providers and senior Industry professionals amongst many others.

The Aluminium Workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Abhijit Pati, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium Business. The inaugural event was followed by two technical sessions and a panel discussion. A Knowledge Exchange Platform was launched by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in partnership with IIP for transfer of best practices in industries covered under the Perform Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme. The British High Commission, India, is supporting IIP in this initiative. PAT is a flagship initiative of BEE, which is a mechanism for promoting energy efficiency in large industries. The PAT scheme covers 478 Industrial units across the eight most energy intensive industry sectors in India, where each unit has been assigned a specific energy consumption reduction target. An ‘Action Plan’ detailing the road map for KEP and the inaugural issue of the Quarterly Newsletter was released by the Chief Guest, Shri P.K. Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, Shri R.N. Choubey, Special Secretary, Ministry of Power and Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency at the launch event. Shri Satish Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Power was also present at the Launch event.
